Changing password in hotmail could be one way for you to secure your account. You can do this regularly especially you experience using a public computer. For others who may not be aware and they are confused, Hotmail is currently called as Outlook. There are two ways to change your Hotmail password.
Changing the password through your account
Open a browser, and type in www.hotmail.com. Sign in using your hotmail email address and password. You will then be routed to your inbox.
You will see your profile image located on the upper right corner of the inbox page. It is also located beside your hotmail username. Click the image and a drop down menu will be shown. From the drop down menu, select the “Account Settings.”
You will be given an option after clicking the account settings. Choose “Security & Password” from the options provided. You will then be routed to the page where you can now change your password. The dialog box will ask you to verify your identity through a security code. You will be asked to choose from two methods if how will you receive your security code.
The options will be through text message or email. Your phone number and alternate email address are already registered when you add it the first time you set up your account. The system automatically recognize them. There is also an option “I don’t have any of these.” You can tick this one if you did not provide both or you cannot already access them.
Select an option you want and click “Send Code.” You will then receive a security code and after you verified it, click the link “Change your password.” Type the current password you are using on the first box, and the new password you will be using to the second box. Retype it again on the third box and click “Save.”
You also have an option to change the password every 72 hours by clicking the box at the bottom of the page.
Recovering an Account or Forgotten Password
From the browser, type in hotmail.com/ and you will be routed to the sign in page. Click the link “Can’t access your account?” located below the sign in button. You will be routed to the reset page for password. There are three given options, select the problem you are encountering with your password. Click “I forgot my password” and “Next” button.
The next page will ask you to enter your microsoft/hotmail email address on the box. Type the Captcha shown below the Microsoft account field and click next. Microsoft will ask you to select from the choices on how you would like to receive the security code or reset link, either through text or email and then click “Send code.” Once you receive the code, type it in the box asking for the security code.
If you did not register your phone number or email when you created the account, click “I don’t have any of these” and provide an alternate email address. Answer the questions being asked and submit it. It will take 24 hours for your hotmail to be recovered.
Enter the password on the first box and re-enter it again on the second one, then click “Next.”
